All About Mini Dachshund Puppies

Affectionately known as the “Wiener Dog” the short-legged Dachshund has been used to hunt badger, fox and deer since the 16th century. Fearless, tenacious and keen of nose, the Dachshund’s short stature made it exceptionally adept at routing it’s quarry out from underground.

Today’s Dachshund has been classified in several sub-categories: standard and miniature, smooth-haired, long-haired and wire-haired. Although the breed is classified under the Hound group, they are more like a terrier in working ability with the appearance and voice of a hound.

It is thought that the breed may have a distant cousin in the French Basset Hound. Dachshunds make excellent family pets and do well in the country or the city. Dachshunds require a daily walk to stay in good health.
